GAO reviewed the Department of Health and Human Services, Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services' (CMS) new rule on the inpatient psychiatric facilities prospective payment system--update for fiscal year beginning October 1, 2013 (FY 2014). GAO found that (1) the notice updates the prospective payment rates for Medicare inpatient hospital services provided by inpatient psychiatric facilities (IPFs); and (2) CMS complied with applicable requirements in promulgating the rule.
