GAO reviewed the Department of Health and Human Services, Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services' (CMS) new rule on the Medicare Program and inpatient rehabilitation facility prospective payment system for federal fiscal year 2013. GAO found that (1) the final rule updates the payment rates for inpatient rehabilitation facilities (IRFs) for federal fiscal year (FY) 2013 (for discharges occurring on or after October 1, 2012, and on or before September 30, 2013) as required under section 1886(j)(3)(C) of the Social Security Act (the Act); and (2) CMS complied with the applicable requirements in promulgating the rule.
